MY FAVORITE WORKSHOP TIPS
Bring your growth mindset.I'm a firm believer in Dr. Carol Dweck's growth mindset theory, which posits that when we believe that we're capable of growth and development, we become more capable of putting in the work required to learn and develop. It implies that the human brain is much more malleable than we ever thought -- in other words, people are capable of change, especially if others believe in us and we're willing to put in the work.

Call people in, not out. Most people have good intentions, but we all have blind spots when it comes to understanding the unintentional impacts of our actions. When helping people learn new behaviors, I like to start from a place of shared values, calling colleagues in to join in the work of creating more equitable workplaces, rather than calling them out for behavior that has a negative impact.

Always have snacks. It's easier to learn when we're not hungry! Plus, snacks are a great way to encourage people to attend a training they might otherwise be reluctant to make time for, and keep them engaged in the topic. And food is a wonderful way to appreciate diverse cultures!

PORTFOLIO HIGHLIGHTS
Anti-Bias & Interview TrainingWhile building the recruiting function for an early stage startup, I designed and facilitated customized training to help leaders learn best practices around interviewing and recruiting in alignment with company values. I've been asked to return several times to conduct the training for new employees.

Inclusive Management Tactics TrainingI was asked to return to my MBA program to design and lead a workshop on gender bias as part of an Inclusive Manager Training Series for current students. This workshop includes an overview to understand what gender bias is, and why building cultures of civility and inclusion is crucial to team success. The bulk of time is spent diving into tactics that managers can use to create inclusive teams throughout their hiring, retention, and promotion practices.
